2015 School Year
Dear Edgar School District Families:

Welcome to the 2015-16 academic school year!  As the start of school quickly approaches, it is extremely important that you read the information provided.  The 2015-16 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 1st.  The high school and middle school registration day (August 18 from 8am-6pm) and elementary open house (August 27 from 2:30-5:00pm) are attempts to provide your child(ren) with a smooth start to the school year.  On August 25th there will also be a Back-to-School Night for 4th and 5th grade students/parents-- 4th grade at 6:00pm and 5th grade at 7:00pm.  Due dates for returning forms and the timely payment of fees are critical.  If you know of families new to Edgar, encourage them to register their child(ren) by the third week of August because the first day of classes is a hectic time for everyone and even more overwhelming for new students.  Attached you will find general information on free/reduced meals, student insurance, and lunch/breakfast accounts.  Note:  Those qualifying for free/reduced meals will have registration fees waived (not athletic or class fees).

The cost for school lunch will increase by 10¢ per meal and school breakfast will increase by .05¢ per meal.  This is a federal mandate as the lunch meal prices must continue to increase until our prices eventually reach the federal average lunch price, which is currently $2.57 per lunch.  Each subsequent year will require our food program to increase until we reach the current average price.  The 2015-16 meal prices are as follows:

                             Pre-K-5th Grade:                   HS/MS:                 Reduced:
Breakfast:               $1.40                                    $1.40                    $.30
Lunch:                   $2.20                                     $2.55                   $.40

As a parent, if you have any concerns about your child’s safety, the release of student data, dispensing medications, transportation, subjecting students to advertising, the availability of employee credentials, locker searches, or any other issues, please contact me or the building administrators.  Policies on these and many other issues are posted on our website, www.edgar.k12.wi.us.  As in the past, we will place barricades along the streets directing traffic to establish our bus drop off zones and parental drop off areas for students. We want our children to have safe access to the school each morning.

We do have a few new faces to welcome this year as well.  Please make sure to welcome:  Sarah Mucha (High School Secretary), Jackie Imhoff (Part-Time Elementary Art Teacher), Jessica Halvorsen (Elementary Special Education), Ashley Schilling (Grade 5) and Denise Gage (Heath/Instructional Aide). We are also in the process of hiring a CD Special Education Teacher and four Special Education Aides.  We will be sure to introduce these new hires to you as well in our first edition of the "Catprints."

The school has been bustling with activity all summer.  With more than 500 students involved in summer school and the facility upgrades that are occurring, we have been a very busy place.  I would like to thank you for allowing us to move forward with the upgrades, by doing so we will be able to continue to take great pride in the facilities that Edgar has provided your children.

I am very excited to continue my career as the Superintendent for the Edgar School District as it is our commitment to provide a quality education for all students.    I will continue to work together with the staff, students, parents, and community to strive for excellence —“Edgar Excellence”.  Enjoy the remainder of your summer and, as always, we are looking forward to yet another successful school year.

Respectfully,

Dr. Cari Guden, Superintendent
Edgar School District
